Artist

We house a variety of different artists at different ability levels and price points. It can be pretty daunting to select an artist right for your project and budget however we are here to help make this process a little more clear.

If enquiring through the studio you will be directed to the most appropriate artist for your project and budget.

  • Apprentice

A tattoo apprentice is someone very new to the world of tattooing. They likely have honed their artistic skills for years in preparation to becoming a tattoo artist but have yet to learn how to transfer those skills to skin. If they are tattooing real human skin you may be among some of their very first clients. This doesn't mean that your tattoo will be bad! A lot of apprentices are very capable of producing great artwork.

However they lack the experience and context to deal with every project and situation and their pricing reflects this. Their projects are carefully selected for them to gain experience and not be overwhelmed by something they can't handle.

Do not expect a perfectly executed masterpiece if you are paying apprentice rates.

  • Junior Artist

Once an apprentice gains enough experience and confidence they become a Junior Artist. They are now ready for walk ins and general enquires. They can be trusted to tattoo simple to intermediate projects with no supervision and are capable of elevated projects with the right guidance. They are now artists in their own right but they are still gathering the experience necessary to become fully fledged and independent artists. Their price point sits between Apprentice and Resident artists. You can expect projects to be executed with a good degree of competency however you cannot expect them to consistently execute projects to one hundred percent perfection. As with Apprentice artists their pricing reflects this.

  • Resident Artists

Once an artist at our shop has enough experience to deal with a variety of different projects, styles and can course correct to avoid pitfalls they become Resident Artists. Resident Artists are fully fledged and independent, require no oversight from the studio and are capable of executing chosen projects to a high standard.

Not all Residents share the same level of skill or artistry. They can be generalists capable of producing quality work in a number of different styles and placements or they can be highly specialised in a particular style or placement.

Their pricing will reflect how many years experience they possess, their technical ability, their artist vision, their visibility on social media and how in demand they are, among other factors.

If you are booking an artist with a wealth of experience, a track record of excellence and are after a masterpiece for your collection, expect the price point to reflect this.

  • Guest artists

Guest artists are travelling artists, sometimes from another city, but usually from overseas. As travelling in demand artists they are often highly specialised in a particular style or placement. They will rarely be generalists happy to take on any project.

This is a unique opportunity for you as a client to collect a showstopping piece from someone you may not have access to normally, without paying a lot for travel and hotels.

We will be hosting international guest artists from different parts of the world and you may need to be mindful of the fact that they may come from a completely different culture and background to you, or may have an artistic process very unique to them. As international in demand artists, and with hotel and travel expenses in mind, they have some of the highest price points.

As language and culture is sometimes a barrier to booking guest artists, the team at Requiem is here to help you to navigate this process.
